Introduced as the successor to the zip-fly 501ZXX, the 502XX was made for people on the East Coast of the USA, who preferred a zipper over a button-fly. This particular pair is still in its original rigid state but looks to have been blanched by the original owner. Possibly in a failed attempt to soften the fabric, giving the overall garment a light, almost acid-wash like look. The Red Tab device and the redline selvedge have also been extracted from colour in this process.
